BRIEF HISTORY
The West Visayas State University – Janiuay Campus has a storied history, originating as a humble secondary school in Janiuay, Iloilo, and evolving into a prestigious state university. Its inception in 1946 as Janiuay High School, driven by Hon. Tiburcio A. Lutero’s visionary leadership and local support, set the stage for the transformation. It underwent various phases, transitioning into Janiuay National Vocational High School, Janiuay National Comprehensive High School, and Don Tiburcio A. Lutero National Comprehensive High School. Celebrating its 50th anniversary as Janiuay Polytechnic College in 1996, the institution maintained a commitment to quality education. On August 22, 2000, it integrated into West Visayas State University, solidifying its place in the state university system under the stewardship of Mr. Rufino Larupay, Dr. Antonio S. Urbano, Jr., Dr. Raymund Gemora, and Dr. Guiller P. Pendon, marking a remarkable journey from a local high school to an essential part of a state university.
INSTRUCTION
At WVSU Janiuay, we are committed to excellence in education. Our BSEd and BEEd programs in the School of Teacher Education have successfully undergone CHED revalidation, and our Master of Arts in Education – English as a Second Language (ESL) program received positive evaluations from the Regional Quality Assessment Team and the Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) Technical Evaluation Committee of the Commission on Higher Education, for the issuance of the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC). Our dedication is reflected in the latest Licensure Examination for Teachers results, with a 55.70% passing rate for the BSEd program and an impressive 70.97% for the BEEd program. Moreover, our faculty members are continually enhancing their instructional skills through extensive training, including syllabi enhancement, module development, and the adoption of hyflex teaching methods. These efforts ensure that the education we offer is of the highest quality, up-to-date, and aligned with the evolving needs of society.
RESEARCH
At WVSU Janiuay, we foster a culture of research excellence among our faculty, staff, and students. Our commitment is evident through notable achievements such as the publication of impactful research papers, like ‘Predicting Outpatient Visits using Time Series Data based on the ARIMA Model,’ authored by Liv Onic, Minle Mar Ayalin, and Hiezyl Gorantes. This underscores our dedication to nurturing research talents among students. Additionally, our faculty consistently contributes to research, earning recognition in local and international journals. To stay updated with the latest trends, we organize research cafes. In the past year, we conducted 20 research projects, with 12 in progress and 8 successfully completed, reaffirming our status as a hub for pioneering research and innovation.
EXTENSION
The campus is very active in the conduct of extension activities to different adopted communities. This is to ensure that learning must not end in the four walls of the classroom and through production of quality graduates, but also with the eagerness to share talents, skills, and knowledge through extension activities. This endeavor uplifts not just the students, faculty and staff, but the entire society as a whole.
